Surfing

The Coral Coast boasts one of the most pristine and picturesque coastlines in Australia. If you’re on the lookout for the perfect surfing spot, you will certainly be spoilt for choice along the Dongara – Port Denison coast.

Located in Port Denison, just north of Grannies Beach, ‘Surf Beach’ – also known as Arurine Bay – is the perfect option for beginner surfers and bodyboarders, with its safe beach breaks and gentler waves. The beach receives slight protection in the southern corner with waves increasing up the beach to about 1 m along the northern section.

With a short drive to the south of Port Denison you will find yourself in surfer’s paradise at ‘South Beach’. This beach is one of the best and safest locations to go surfing in the Dongara Port Denison region as it is patrolled on weekends and during public holidays through the summer by the Dongara Denison Surf Lifesaving Club. The aptly named Surf Beach is a family-friendly surfing spot, with the rustic Starfish Café onsite, as well as toilet and shower facilities. Perfect for swimming, surfing or windsurfing, this beach is a must-see on your next visit to Dongara Port Denison!

For the seasoned pro surfer, you will find the perfect waves off Home Reef, which is situated off the ocean-side of the marina rock wall.

Stay safe, surf safe & enjoy!

Windsurfing

With so much to do and see in the Dongara-Port Denison region, you could be forgiven for not having a go at everything, but you can’t leave without testing the best windsurfing spots Western Australia has to offer. In fact, the Coral Coast is affectionately known as Windy Coast, making Dongara Port Denison the ideal spot to get carried away!

South Beach - With ideal, windy conditions and glorious weather, South Beach is a favourite amongst windsurfers in Western Australia. This beach is popular with windsurfers during the November to March season, and it has easy 2WD and 4WD car access onto the sand and features onsite shower facilities. South Beach has hosted the famous 'Kitestock' in 2007, 2014 and 2015, just to name a few. Kitestock brought hundreds of keen windsurfers and windsurf fans from around the world to Dongara Port Denison.

Grannies Beach - Consistently strong southerly sea breezes attract windsurfing enthusiasts to this Port Denison gem. While here, why not grab a coffee from the onsite van The Green Beanie and enjoy a slovenly afternoon on the lawn in the sun after ripping up the waves. There’s also a shaded playground to keep the kids occupied.
