The Village

THE VILLAGE

The Village is the result of a joint venture between the Shire of Irwin and the Department of Housing to provide affordable housing for seniors.

The complex comprises 39, one and two bedroom self-contained units.

The Village is managed by the Irwin Shire, which is responsible for rent collection, maintenance (both short and long-term), and the re-letting of units as they become vacant.

Eligibility

Applicants must comply with the Department of Communities strict eligibility criteria which includes:

  • Must be Australian citizens or have permanent residency status, and live in WA.
  • An applicant(s) must not exceed the Housing Authorities income limits.
  • Seniors under 60 years – not to have cash assets in excess of $38,400 (singles) or $63,800 (couples)
  • Seniors over 60 years - not to have cash assets in excess of $80,000 (singles or couples);
  • Must not own property or land;
  • Be able to prove your identity;
  • Must be 55 years or over.

TWO HENRY ROAD

Two Henry Road is an independent living community, designed to meet the needs of seniors.  The facility features dementia friendly design and is located opposite the Dongara Health Service, Accident and Emergency Department and visiting allied health rooms, to support ageing in place

The Shire of Irwin was awarded the Livable Housing Australia’s highest award of Platinum Certification for the Two Henry Road design. This represents a trusted quality mark that attests to the enhanced liveability.

The first six Two Henry Road independent living units were officially opened by Shire President, Mike Smith in September, 2020.  

Stage Two of Two Henry Road was officially opened in July 2022, with six more independent living units available to support older residents to remain living in the Irwin community.

Shire of Irwin President Mike Smith was joined by the Hon Sandra Carr MLC, Member for the Agricultural Region who was representing the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA Minister for Health and Mental Health, and WACHS Midwest Regional Director Rachel Ferarri to officially open the new units. Shire of Irwin CEO Shane Ivers, Councillors Hayley Palmer and Barry Wyse, and existing and future tenants were also in attendance.

Stage Two of the Two Henry Road project was the result of a collaboration between the Shire of Irwin and the WA Country Health Service. The project forms part of the WACHS $26 million Residential and Dementia Investment Strategy.

Two Henry Road will comprise of twelve, two-bedroom units with modern contemporary kitchens, spacious bathrooms and secure attached garages. Each unit has open plan living areas with a private alfresco to the rear and walking distance to an outdoor communal area.
