Restricted Burning Period Extension

Published: Thursday, 27 September 2018 at 1:54:41 PM

In accordance with Section 18 (5) of the Bush Fires Act 1954, the Shire of Irwin is extending the Restricted Burning Period. The Restricted Burning Period will now be in force from Midnight Sunday 7th October 2018. The changes to these dates are being applied due to a variety of reasons including curing rates and weather conditions.

Permits will be required from this date. These are available from the Shire of Irwin Office or from your local Permit Issuing Officer; it is recommended you call the Shire prior to trying to obtain a permit as the appropriate personnel are not always available.

For burning carried out up to 7th October 2018, please take the following cautionary steps:

  • Avoid burning in high wind conditions
  • Ensure adequate clearing around burning off activities
  • Have firefighting appliances in place
  • As a precautionary measure consider obtaining a Restricted Burning Permit

If you have any enquiries please contact the Shire Office on 9927 0000 or your local Bush Fire Control Officer detailed in the Shire’s Fire Break Notice.
