The Shire provides each rateable residential property with one 240 litre rubbish bin weekly collection service. Rateable properties requiring additional bins or services above their entitlement will incur additional fees, as per the current fees and charges.

Shire household rubbish collection services are provided by Avon Waste.

Placement Of BinsPlacement Of Bins
The mobile bins are emptied by Council's contractors and should be by 6.00am on collection days.
Residents are advised to put their bins out the night before to avoid them being missed.
All bins should be placed approximately half a metre from the kerb and half a metre apart from each other, with the lid opening to face the road. Do not place bins under trees or park cars in front of bins.
Things that cannot be collected
- Heavy bins - over 70kg
- Overfull bins - please ensure bin lid can fully close
- Loose items - bags next to bins will not be collected

The Council Transfer Station Recycling Centre is located on Dee Street, Port Denison off Point Leander Drive.

Important changes In line with recent changes under the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Amendment Regulations 2019 the Shire has introduced a new waste management system at the Dongara Transfer Station.
What does this mean for our customers?
- Our hours of operation will remain the same
- You will have the option to pay by EFTPOS
- Improved invoicing for Business and account customers
- All vehicles will be required to check in with staff at the entrance prior to depositing waste into designated areas so that staff can record:
- Vehicle registrations of all vehicles entering the site
- Types and volume of waste and other material entering site
- Types and volume of waste and other material leaving site
Why were the changes required?
The changes will:
- Improve customer service and provide additional payment options
- Allow us to comply with our legal environmental obligations
- Help us provide sustainable waste management services into the future

- Car batteries
- Green waste
- Aluminium cans
- Steel products
- White goods
- Engine oil
Recycling waste that is accepted at the Transfer Station includes:
- Greenwaste
- Aluminium cans
- Scrap metal
- Household items which may be of use to somebody
- Second hand building materials
Charges apply for:
- General refuse (commercial & domestic)
- Tyres
- Car bodies
- Builder's waste
- Special burial waste
- Liquid waste
