Every two years the Shire of Irwin holds Ordinary Local Government Elections. If you are passionate about the future direction of the Shire, this election provides an opportunity for you to nominate for Council.
The Local Government Elections will be conducted by postal election with the Election Day being 16 October 2021.
As per the Local Government Act 1995, a Councillor –
a) represents the interests of electors, ratepayers and residents of the district; and
b) provides leadership and guidance to the community in the district; and
c) facilitates communication between the community and the council; and
d) participates in the local government’s decision-making processes at council and committee meetings; and
e) performs such other functions as are given to a councillor by this Act or any other written law.
There are four (4) positions coming available at the election, currently occupied by:
- Cr Barry Wyse
- Cr Mark Leonard
- Cr Isabelle Scott
- Cr Ian West
To be eligible to nominate as a candidate you must be registered as an elector in the Shire of Irwin and aged over 18 years.
Shire of Irwin Chief Executive Officer, Shane Ivers encourages anyone who is interested in nominating for Council to attend the upcoming Candidate Information Session on Tuesday 31 August 2021, commencing at 6.00pm in the Shire of Irwin Council Chambers, 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara.
