Northern Country Zone

The Shire of Irwin is hosting the Biennial WALGA Northern Country Zone Conference for local government officers and Councillors which will be held at the Irwin Recreation Centre on 29 March 2014. Minister for Local Government Hon. Tony Simpson MLA will be officially opening the event. John Worsfold (former West Coast Eagles Senior Coach) will be a keynote speaker discussing ‘Leadership through change’. This is a great opportunity for local governments to network and for us to showcase our fantastic facilities and community.

Building Surveyor

The Council is seeking someone who is reliable, enthusiastic and has a good knowledge of Building legislation. Additional qualifications as Environmental Health Officer would be an advantage. Reporting to the Manager Community Safety, the successful applicant will be an integral member of the Planning and Infrastructure directorate.

Recreation Needs Analysis

The Shire of Irwin Recreation Needs Analysis Draft Report has been endorsed by Council for public comment.

We would like to invite interested parties to read the Draft Recreation Needs Analysis and provide feedback. This can be done in several ways;

Administration Centre - Opening Times for 27 March 2014

Please note that the Administration Centre will open at 9am on Thursday, 27 March 2014 in order for staff to attend a general staff meeting. Should you wish to contact us during this time you will be referred to our Call Centre however if your enquiry is urgent a message will be forwarded to the relevant officer for actioning.

Fit2Live Bike Hike

Registrations are now open for the Fit2Live Bike Hike on Saturday, 22 March 2014, starting from 8am. There are three rides to choose from, a 4km, 7km and 15km ride, each starting and finishing at the Rec Centre.

The Fit2Live Bike Hike is part of Cycle Instead Bikeweek, 15-23 March 2014.

2014 Shire of Irwin Heritage Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2014 Shire of Irwin Heritage Awards. The Irwin Heritage Award is aimed at recognising excellence in conservation and exceptional efforts in promoting heritage within the Shire. 

The award is given annually and may be awarded to Individuals, Community Groups, Government Bodies or Business Groups. Nominations could be a building, a collection of natural or cultural landscapes, a promotion, a publication or a website. 

To enter, please complete a nomination form and submit to the Shire by 5.00pm on Thursday, 17 April 2014. Nomination forms are available from the Shire of Irwin Administration Office, 13 Waldeck Street. Dongara Invasive Weed Removal Demonstration

Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) is hosting a free weed removal demonstration workshop on Tuesday 1 April 2014 between 4pm – 6pm at the Irwin Recreation Centre. The session is to help eradicate the invasive Boxthorn weed in the Dongara Area. Local Contractors who have developed quick and safe methods for boxthorn removal will be providing practical demonstrations.
