Australia Day Celebrations

The Australia Day Event held on Sunday evening at the Port Denison Foreshore included a range of events that were enjoyed by a large amount of attendees. The Shire is grateful that they are able to support such events by making access to many of the attractions free.

Supported entertainment included music by the Nathan Gaunt Duo, the Humpy Camels, Mad Hatter Markets, Jolly Lobster (water slide and jumping castle), Rainbows ‘n’ Fairydust (Face painting), and various food outlets. The Shire also supported the costs in providing a free sausage sizzle, watermelon and water which was served by the Dongara Denison Lions Club. As well as cooking the BBQ, members also provided the Lions train to contribute to the long line of entertainment offered on the day.

Acknowledgement of nominees and announcements of winners for the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards was made at the start of the Australia Day festivities. Congratulations to the following Active Citizenship Award recipients:

  • Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizen Award – 25 years or older – Doug Johns

  • Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizen Award – under 25 years Joshua Crane
