GWN7 Top Tourism Awards

Congratulations to Ms Nicole Nelson in being Runner-up in the 2013 West Australian Golden i Award for Visitor Centre Leadership.

Our Visitor Centre was also nominated and awarded the 2013 Community Relations Award.

Tourism Minister, Liza Harvey said, “The Top Tourism Awards are very important as they acknowledge the significant role of the State’s visitor centres in attracting and welcoming visitors in WA.”

The awards were presented at ceremony hosted by the City of Armadale and as part of the proceedings for the annual Visitor Centre Association of Western Australia Conference.

The Visitor Centre Association of WA is a not-for-profit peak industry body, representing 100 visitor centres and sub-representation of approximately 4,500 tourism businesses throughout Western Australia.

Early Ratepayers Prize Draw

A gentle reminder that first instalment payments for Rates are due 4 October 2013. The following payment options are now available to ratepayers, provided that all arrears have been paid in full:

Option 1 - Payment in full by the due date.

Option 2 - Two instalments.

Option 3 - Four instalments.

Ratepayers who wish to be entered into the "Early Rates" prize draw must pay their rates in full by the due date in order to be eligible. The final payment date for inclusion in the competition will be shown on the rate notice. Thank you to all sponsors for contributing towards our draw this year.

Metropolitan Reform - Boundaries on Goggle

The Department of Local Government and Communities has teamed up with the Department of Planning and Landgate to develop maps on Google Maps to show the planned new boundaries.

Using the new maps, you can type in an individual address to see either the current or planned new local government boundaries. You can also identify locations and landmarks such as pools, shopping centres, parks and community centres.

Business After Hours

Watch this space for information on the next Business After Hours meeting, to be hosted by the Shire of Irwin on 22 October 2013. 

Coastline Footage Sought

The Perth International Arts Festival, ABC Television and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia are calling for Super 8 (16 or 8mm preferred) footage of Australia’s coastline for their documentary Girt By Sea. If you have any footage that captures life on the coast, such as surfing, fishing and holidays, go to The world premiere will be shown at the Festival in February 2014.

Gym and Fitness Classes

Please be advised that no fitness classes and the gym will be closed on Monday 30 September (public holiday) and fitness classes are also cancelled for Monday 7 October. All other classes are normal during school holidays.

Monday Grand Final and Windup

Congratulations to all teams who played in the Grand Final of Monday Night Netball last week. Sapphires defeated Ravens by 20 points (42-22) in the A Grade final and White Lillies defeated Fancy Pants by 11 points in the B Grade(20-9). Thank you again to all participants and volunteers!
