Local Government Election Candidates

The Shire of Irwin has received six nominations for the four available Council positions in this year’s Local Government Election. The nominees were announced and ballot places allocated on Thursday 12 September 2013 following the close of nominations at 4pm;

  • David Kennedy
  • Bronwen Scott
  • John Leslie Rossiter
  • Mark Leonard
  • Ian West
  • Robert McClurg

Candidate Profiles are on display at the Administration Centre.

Elections for the Shire of Irwin will be held 19 October 2013. The Western Australian Electoral Commission will release further details in the Rag, please also check our website.

Congratulations to Jaeger O’Meara

The Shire of Irwin congratulates, home grown sporting hero, Jaeger O’Meara on being the recipient of the NAB Rising Star Award for 2013, AFLPA’s Best First Year Player Award and the successful year he has had with the Gold Coast Suns.

Farewell to Glenn Coaker

Shire President, Stuart Chandler recognised Glenn Coaker at a function last Tuesday, for 8 years outstanding and loyal service with the Shire of Irwin, following his resignation as A/Director Planning and Infrastructure.

Glenn is relocating to Perth, with his family, to pursue a new role with the Department of Planning.

Glenn takes with him a wealth of local and planning knowledge, and will be greatly missed by staff.

Council and staff wish him and his family all the best  for their new endeavours.

Golden i Awards To Be Announced This Friday

The Golden i Awards are set to be announced at a ceremony in Perth this Friday as part of the 2013 Top Tourism Awards.

Ms Nicole Nelson, Manager Tourism and Library Services has been nominated as one of two finalists for the Visitor Centre Leadership Award.

Ms Nelson is attending a 3-day conference and the award ceremony this week. We will announce the results in next week’s Bulletin.

Coastline Footage Sought

The Perth International Arts Festival, ABC Television and the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia are calling for Super 8 (16 or 8mm preferred) footage of Australia’s coastline for their documentary Girt By Sea. If you have any footage that captures life on the coast, such as surfing, fishing and holidays, go to The world premiere will be shown at the Festival in February 2014.

Monday Night Netball Grand Final and Windup

The Grand Final and Windup is to be held on Friday 20 September 2013, all team members and volunteers are welcome to come and celebrate the season.
