Employee of the Month May 2013

We are pleased to announce that P.J. Ruffles was awarded the May 2013 Employee of the Month Award. P.J. is recognised for initiating some great programs at the Gym and for always looking for ways to improve usage and services. Her programs have hugely improved attendance rates and has given positive exposure to the Irwin Rec and Shire. She also ran a very successful Mens Health Expo

State Government Department Changes

The State Government has recently initiated some changes, effective 1 July 2013. The Department of Local Government  has now joined with the Department for Communities to form the Department of Local Government and Communities. Each branch of the new department is retaining their current contact details.

The Department of Environment and Conservation is splitting to become the Department of Environment Regulation and the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework

Council adopted the various integrated planning and reporting documents at the 25 June 2013 Ordinary meeting which has enabled us to submit them to the Department of Local Government before the 30 June deadline.

If anyone is interested in viewing the documents they are available on the Shire’s website in the document centre. Please contact us should you have difficulty downloading or accessing these documents.

New Casual Ranger

Michelle English has joined the team as the new Casual Ranger. Michelle will be undertaking any relief work as required. The Ranger can be contacted by calling 9927 0000, including after hours.

Box Thorn Tagging and Beach Clean Up

A reminder that the Box Thorn Tagging and Beach Clean Up is on this Saturday 13 July 2013 from 10am to 12 noon. Please meet at the Skate Park, Port Denison if you are willing to help out (more info in this week’s Rag under Public Notices).

Recreation Needs Analysis

Shire staff will be meeting with consultants from A Balanced View to discuss the Recreation Needs Analysis following their appointment last week. We were fortunate enough to receive 14 quality submissions overall and had a tough job choosing the best consultancy firm for our needs.

Sporting groups were given an early opportunity to raise any future needs /wants in preparation for the Needs Analysis however there will be further opportunities for community consultation in the coming months. If anyone would like to know more please call Laurie on 9955 9200.
