Analogue TV will cease as of 25 June 2013

Residents are again reminded that the analogue television signal will be switched off from Tuesday 25 June 2013—this is next Tuesday. You only have a week to ensure you are ready.

If you have purchased a digital television or digital set top box and have had your antenna checked by an endorsed antenna installer, and you still do not receive an acceptable signal, you can apply for the Satellite Subsidy Scheme.

As our most recent flyers have indicated, Irwin residents are eligible to access the Satellite Subsidy Scheme. This means you can obtain the VAST system at a subsidised rate. To apply or find out more call the Digital Ready Hotline on 1800 201 013 (the flyer in this week’s Rag provides further instruction on how to apply). The subsidy offer remains open until a month after the switchover.

Cat Act 2011

From 1 November 2013, the full Cat Act 2011 takes effect and will require all cats that have reached six months of age to be sterilised, microchipped and registered with their relevant local government.

Local Government Minister Tony Simpson said the aim was to reduce the thousands of stray cats being euthanised each year and to provide for responsible cat ownership.

“The legislation will also help address the large stray and feral cat population that causes a nuisance, damages property and kills wildlife.”

Each local government is responsible for administering and enforcing the legislation.

The Shire of Irwin has added this information, as well as a Responsible Cat Owner Checklist to the website, should you wish to find out more. Our page links to that of the Department of Local Government which provides for further information on how the Cat Act 2011 will affect you and your feline friend. Visit the Cat Control page under Ranger Services at www.irwin.wa.gov.au.

Men’s Health Week

The Irwin Rec attracted a great crowd for the Men’s Health Expo on Friday last week.

Over 30 men participated in the PIT STOP health checks, which included blood pressure checks, waist measurement and managing stress indicators.

Thank you to those who presented at the event, including Roadwise, PITSTOP, Corrina Michael (Dietician) Dr Okezie, and the Geraldton Drug and Alcohol team.

A big thank you must go to all those who attended the event, we hope you took away some important information and messages that will have a positive impact on your health choices.

The turn out was such a positive outcome for the overall community and will hopefully create better awareness of men’s health issues and have a significant impact on men taking the right steps in being more proactive with their health.
