Community Emergency Services Manager - Kyle Pollitt

I would like to welcome Kyle Pollitt and his family to the area, following Kyle’s appointment as the Community Emergency Services Manager for the Shire’s of Irwin, Carnamah and Coorow.

Kyle began his first week with a major fire event and two full days of training, an induction and familiarising himself with staff. It was a challenging start but great for him to gain some first-hand experience.

Mrs Jodie O’Keefe was awarded Employee of the Year for 2012 following her nominations during the year, for support shown to fellow staff members, her high level of customer service and great work ethic.

The final Employee of the Month awards for 2012 were presented to Miss Stephanie Clarkson for November and Miss Erin Greaves for December.

Blessing of the Raods / Carols in the Park

In conjunction with the Carols in the Park to be held on Friday 14 December 2012 at the Town Park, the Shire and Irwin Roadwise Committee are holding a Blessing of the Roads presentation during the service to send a clear message to the community about staying safe on our roads this holiday period.

The Minister Fraternal will officially bless our roads at the service and there will be white ribbons available to serve as a reminder that road safety is a shared responsibility and that everyone has a role to play.

Premier's Visit to the Shire of Irwin

The Premier for Western Australia, Hon Colin Barnett and Minister for Education, Hon Peter Collier MLC were welcomed to the Shire of Irwin today, as part of the official opening of the Dongara District High School and in celebration of the newly completed facilities upgrade. The school and wider community were proudly represented at the official assembly held today which was a very well run event.

Library and Visitor Centre

Please note that the Licensing test computer has been moved to a quieter location at the rear of the Library. We also wish to advise that Music Time / Story Time has been cancelled until further notice.

Digital TV

An information page has been included within this issue of the Rag outlining the response provided from the Digital Switchover Taskforce following our correspondence to them regarding the issues the Shire of Irwin residents have been experiencing. A copy is also available on the Shire’s website and Facebook page.

To gain a better understanding of the application process for the VAST service, the Shire administration submitted an application for the Admin Centre as we had been experiencing an unreliable signal. An application was made online, and in the early stages we were advised that the area should have a good to variable coverage which indicated we would not be eligible for the service. However, having followed all the procedures required, and an assessment by the administrator (please see the information page for further clarification), the end result is that we have been issued with approval for VAST services. We also followed advice, to engage an antennae installer who tested our signal strengths which determined that our signal has recently improved significantly. We thereby recommend that you read the information provided, follow all advice and contact the Digital Switchover Taskforce on 1800 201 013 or visit the website www.digitalready.gov.au if you are still unsure of your requirements or experience any further issues.
