Irwin Heritage Awards

The Shire hosted the Irwin Heritage Awards presentation today, 9 October 2012. Community members gathered for a wonderful morning tea in recognition of those who have made a positive contribution in the area of heritage and conservation. All nominees were worthy of acknowledgement however the award recipients, as determined by the Heritage Advisory Committee, were as follows;

 2012 Shire of Irwin Award for Excellence in Heritage Building Design and Conservation

- Shire of Irwin for the Yardarino School Conservation Works (special mention to Mr Roy Butterfield)

2012 Shire of Irwin Award for Outstanding Heritage Achievement

- The Old Police Station Museum for the Kids Activity Day

 Thank you to those who attended in support of the award program, recipients and the preservation of Irwin’s heritage.

Anzac Day Commemorations, 25 April 2015 - Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey

On 25 April 2015, Australia and New Zealand will commemorate the centenary of the ANZAC landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. There has been considerable public interest in attending the centenary services at Gallipoli in 2015 therefore the Government is seeking the views of Australians on holding a ballot for approximately 80% of the 10,000 places being allocated to be shared between Australia and New Zealand.

 To enable participation in the consultation process, a discussion paper and survey have been included on the Gallipoli 2015 website which I would encourage any interested parties to view. Public forums are also being held across Australia – please visit the website for more information. The public consultation process closes on 30 November 2012.

The old kitchen in the Library is currently undergoing renovations which means there will be a bit of noise during office hours over the next few weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Irwin River Clean Up

The Tidy Towns Sustainable Committee would like to extend a big thank you to the volunteers who helped with the cleanup at the Irwin River on Saturday. It is hoped that we can see a good turnout for the next clean up. Please look out for our next cleanup date in a future issue of the Rag.
