Strategic Community Plan (SCP) - Draft Available for Public Comment

During the initial public consultation for the Shire’s first SCP, the Shire committed to ensuring a further opportunity for public comment on the draft SCP prior to Council adoption.

 Therefore, on behalf of Council, I invite and encourage the Irwin community to continue its active involvement by reviewing and commenting on the draft SCP.  Copies of the Draft Strategic Community Plan will be available for public comment from Wednesday, 12 September 2012. You can view and download a copy on our website at www.irwin.wa.gov.au or pick up a copy at the Shire Administration Office. Comments can be submitted in writing to:

Chief Executive Officer                          email: irwin2022@irwin.wa.gov.au
PMB

DONGARA WA 6525                             or hand deliver to the Shire Administration Office.

 The Strategic Community Plan and associated Corporate Business Plan are intended to drive the development of the annual budget and will become the Shire’s principal strategic documents demonstrating measurable linkages between community aspirations, financial capacity and practical service delivery. The 10+ year Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan will deliver the following outcomes:

·         a long term strategic community plan that links community aspirations with the council’s vision;

·         a corporate business plan that integrates resourcing plans with the strategic community plan; and

·         a vision for the future viability of the local government area linked to the annual budget

Comments and submissions will be accepted until 4pm on Monday, 8 October 2012.

Please contact the Shire’s Research and Projects Officer, Lauren Tunbridge, on 9927 0000 or projects@irwin.wa.gov.au for further information.

Digital Television

Some of you may have noticed that more digital channels are now available to Irwin residents. This is in preparation of free-to-air television signals being switched off from the current analogue signal to digital only by 2013. This means that once the switchover occurs you will not be able to get reception unless you have a digital television, set-top box or similar device.

To help people make the switch to digital TV, the Government has established the Household Assistance Scheme. From the 10th September 2012, if you receive pension payments from Centrelink or the Department of Veterans Affairs you may eligible to apply to have digital ready equipment installed free of charge. You should receive a letter in the mail soon with further information.

Dongara Patchwork Club - Friendship Day

The Dongara Patchwork Club are to be congratulated on running such a successful Friendship Day event. My wife, Jane, and I had the pleasure of attending the event on Saturday and had a very enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to Geraldton visitors and Dongara volunteers involved and the wonderful country-style lunch and the company we shared.

Reminder: Temporary Road Closure - Depot Hill River Crossing
