Saturday, 24 December 2016 – 8.30am Wednesday, 28 December 2016 and the New Year Public Holiday (2 January 2017).

Irwin Recreation Centre

CLOSED

12.00 noon Thursday, 22 December 2016 and reopening at 6.00am Tuesday, 3 January 2017, this will allow time for resealing of the Centre’s floors.

Please be advised that there will not be any change to the green bin collection services for both residential and commercial premises during the Christmas and New Year period.

Of course should you need to contact us urgently during this time our Call Centre is available to take your calls and direct your query appropriately - please call 9927 0000. For non-urgent matters you can email reception@irwin.wa.gov.au and we will respond upon return in 2017.

You can also use the localeye app to find out general information about the Shire and report any issues relating to our business (this can be used for any local government including the Shire of Irwin). It’s an easy online form that you can add photos to and search locations that could take less than 30 seconds to complete and submit.

 

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

The Shire of Irwin sincerely hope that the community enjoys the Christmas decorations that have been installed along Moreton Terrace. The aim of the decorations was not only to bring festive spirit to the community but also to support and promote the artistic talents within our town. We believe that this has been achieved in a fun, unique and interactive way and look forward to building on this initiative in the future.

FIRE AND EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Fires should always be reported to ‘000’ to ensure an efficient response is provided.

If you are wanting to find out information regarding a fire call 13DFES (13 33 37) or visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) have a great range of resources available on their website if you would like to know how to be prepared in case of a bushfire.

There are also some useful apps available to assist in emergency situations, including Emergency +. Western Power have an app you can use to find out info regarding outages or even to report faults. SES can be contacted on 132 500 for assistance during an emergency.

ABC local radio broadcasts harvest ban information at dedicated times:

MARKYT SCORECARD PRIZE DRAW WINNERS

I would like to extend a thank you to the 359 people who took the time to complete and return a MARKYT Scorecard by the close date of Monday, 14 November 2016. In total, 20% more feedback was received this year when compared to the response rate of 2013.

CATALYSE® Pty Ltd are still busy analysing the relevant data obtained and are expected to provide a summary of findings in mid-December. As previously indicated, the summary report will be uploaded to the Shire’s website and copies will be available at Shire Administration Office during office hours (11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara) once collated.

EMPLOYMENT VACANCY – PART TIME COMMUNITY RANGER

The Community Ranger provides a core service to the residents, business community and visitors to the district by being highly visible on the street through scouting and enforcement patrols. The Community Ranger performs a range of multi-skilled duties, including the raising of public awareness and public education. Where necessary, they initiate and implement projects/programs as well as enforcement and administration in relation to Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and Council Policies relevant to Local Government.

The Shire strongly supports personal and professional development and as such there will be opportunities for additional hours during times of staff absences to assist in developing the successful applicant’s skills and capacity.

The vacancy of this position is the result of an internal promotion.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

To attract the right person with a brilliant blend of skills, knowledge and experience, the Shire is offering the position an hourly rate of up to $30.3659 (including an adverse working conditions allowance) and up to 14.5% superannuation (subject to a personal contribution being made). Other benefits and employment conditions are in accordance with the Local Government Industry Award 2010 and the National Employment Standards and will be discussed at interview.

EMPLOYMENT VACANCY - SENIOR OPERATIONS OFFICER

The Senior Operations Officer will assist in both the delivery and supervision of the Shire’s operational tasks which includes grounds maintenance, landscaping, mowing, road sweeping, reticulation, turf care, weed control, parks and gardens functions and general town maintenance. The role will ensure budgeted operational works are expediently and economically undertaken to the Shire standards under the direction of the Supervisor Operations.

The role includes day to day supervision and support for the operations team. At all times they must strive for continuous improvement in the workplace and provide efficient, friendly and confidential customer service whilst being helpful and courteous to other Shire staff, Councillors and the public. The Senior Operations Officer shall provide guidance and leadership and work closely with the Supervisor Operations to ensure provision of sound and timely advice to the Operations Team. There will be opportunities for acting appointments to develop skills and capacity during times of staff absences.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

HOLLOMBY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Shire of Irwin is a proud sponsor of the Hollomby Foundation and Geraldton Universities Centre. The Shire of Irwin Scholarship of $3,000 is open to residents of the Shire of Irwin undertaking an undergraduate degree at the Geraldton Universities Centre either part time or full time. 

Applications for 2016 Scholarships are now open and close on Wednesday 8 March 2017.

MOBILE BLACK SPOT PROGRAM

The Government has recently announced the locations to receive funding under Round 2 of the Mobile Black Spot Program that will provide for new or upgraded mobile base stations.

Irwin is set to receive funding towards a mobile base station at Irwin on Rowland Avenue.

NBN

The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and nbn have joined forces to launch a $150,000 grants program aimed at fostering innovation across the nation.

Under the Grow with nbn Program 2017 three major grants of $25,000 and six minor grants of $10,000 are on offer, with one of the minor grants recipients in line to receive an additional $15,000 through an nbn staff vote.

The grants program is designed to help promote and support organisations that are innovatively using the nbn for their business activities.

In the next three years, nbn will help put Australia among the best countries in the world for high speed, universal broadband access, with broadband anticipated to become a powerful source of competitive advantage for Australia. The Grow with nbn Program 2017 encourages organisations to look at ways to take advantage of this to transform Australia’s businesses, charitable organisations and communities.

Each grant will be awarded to recognise outstanding use of nbn connectivity within the relevant field of business, community of education.
