SHIRE OF IRWIN MEETING PROCEDURES LOCAL LAW 2016

Effective from 30 September 2016

On 23 August 2016, the Shire of Irwin resolved to make a new local law relating to Meeting Procedures which is to replace the current Shire of Irwin Standing Orders 2000 (taken to be repealed as part of the new local law).

The purpose of the new local law is to provide rules and guidelines which apply to the conduct of meetings of the Council and its committees and to meetings of electors.

The effect of this local law is to result in:

(a) better decision-making by the Council and committees;

(b) the orderly conduct of meetings dealing with Council business;

(c) better understanding of the process of conducting meetings; and

(c) the more efficient and effective use of time at meetings.

A copy of the local law may be inspected at or obtained from the Shire Administration, 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara WA 6525 between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Alternatively you can access a copy from the Shire’s website www.irwin.wa.gov.au/LatestNews.

Please contact Erin Greaves, Coordinator Executive Services on 9927 0000 or email ea@irwin.wa.gov.au with any enquiries relating to this local law.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE SCHEME SUBMISSIONS

The Shire of Irwin Community Assistance Scheme is to provide assistance to not for profit community based organisations, event organisers and individuals to support the promotion and development of social, economic, recreational, art and cultural projects that make a positive contribution to the quality of life within the Shire of Irwin.

The Community Assistance Scheme provides the framework for the Shire of Irwin to administer community sponsorship. This framework ensures a consistent approach to all applicants who apply for assistance.

The Scheme is open for Submissions from Monday 3 October 2016, and closing Monday 14 November 2016 at 5pm. Projects must be completed by 30 June 2017. Anyone interested in applying must discuss their proposed project with the Manager Community Capacity.

Copies of the Guideline and Application form can be obtained from the Shire of Irwin website, www.irwin.wa.gov.au or contact Nicole Nelson on 9927 0000 or email mcc@irwin.wa.gov.au.

SNOOKER TABLE

When the Shire took possession of Denison House some years ago it included a full size 12’ x 6’ snooker table (in poor condition) in one of the living rooms, which had to be dismantled and put into storage whilst the building was being privately rented.

Whilst in storage it is continuing to depreciate and Council is considering its options as to what to do with the table, including but not limited to:

• Dispose of the table in its current dismantled state,

• Have it reassembled and disposed of, or

• Have it reassembled and placed in a community facility for use by the community.

Information obtained from repairers suggest that to reassemble and restore the table it may cost between $7,500 and $12,500 and, if an interested buyer can be found, some or all of those funds may be recovered. The option of placing it in a community facility presents an issue of location. The table is large and very heavy and cannot be readily moved, that would likely mean that the facility could not be used for other purposes.

To assist Council in its deliberations the community is asked to provide comment or feedback in regards to these or other options, in writing, addressed to the CEO at reception@irwin.wa.gov.au or mailed to 11-13 Waldeck Street Dongara 6525 by Monday 12.00pm 3 October 2016.

Please contact Geoff Peddie, Director Corporate and Community on 9927 0000 or email dcc@irwin.wa.gov.au for further information.
