FREE Training – Cultivating Local Opportunities

Economic Development Australia (EDA) will be visiting the Shire of Irwin on 12 and 13 September 2016 to offer a training programme to community members and stakeholders that aims to provide insights into tackling common economic development challenges faced by regional areas.

The Shire of Irwin Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) would like to encourage interested members of the public to attend any or all of these FREE sessions to initiate conversation about economic development and how individuals and businesses can make a positive impact for our community.

Council have formed the EDAC to assist in preparing an Economic Development Plan that is informed by the local community and hope to use this information to guide future planning and decision making.

It is essential that we gain your input but do appreciate your time is valuable therefore come along if and when it suits. We are hoping to get a good cross section of community members involved.

Duyfken Official Welcoming

An opportunity exists for local not for profit community groups to host the official welcoming function during the Duyfken visit on the evening of Wednesday, 5 October 2016.

This function can host up to 50 people and includes a tour and the official welcoming. The Shire of Irwin is seeking interested groups to host the evening as a fundraising opportunity. The Duyfken staff will be available to serve the refreshments and will have a marquee and bar area available. The club is to supply catering and sell tickets to the function which will begin at 6:30pm and conclude by 9:30pm.

Your not-for-profit group/club can run this event by selling tickets for up to 50 people to attend. The function will have some welcome speeches from the Shire and general formalities, then attendees will be given a tour on board the Ship.

The entertaining area is under a marquee set up at the Jetty, this is provided along with a bar, eskies and plastic wine glasses. Provided also are the staff to service the food and beverages who have their RSA qualification.  Your club will need to arrange for the finger food and beverages, promotion of your event and selling of the tickets.

Raise funds for Your Community Group

On Sunday 25 September Port Denison will be hosting the Denison Foreshore Sprint and the Mid West Shown n Shine. The day will be very busy as the Ulyssees Club will be hosting their state meeting here and the Denison Bowling & Recreation Club also have an event on that weekend.

The Denison Foreshore Sprint are not for profit and are bringing 50 competitors to town along with the organisers, officials plus their families. The Show n Shine will also attract other car enthusiasts. An opportunity exists for community groups to cater for the food requirements on the day for these groups as well as the community.

The Ulyssees Club would like breakfast supplied from 8am (preferably bacon and egg rolls), plus lunch and dinner. Breakfast and lunch will be available to all attendees, including the wider community. It is suggested that food would be delivered to the pit for competitors to purchase.

A Coffee Van, which also offers Gelato, has been booked in. LDAG are offering donuts and West Coast Dance are selling hotdogs and slushies.

For dinner the competitors require finger food for their private event held at the Fisherman’s Hall around 4.30pm – 6pm. Groups will be provided the funds required to purchase the food for this upfront. Everything else is as you see fit.

This is a great way for clubs to fundraise. If you can assist please contact Nicole Nelson, Manager Community Capacity on 9927 0000 or email mcc@irwin.wa.gov.au.
