PORT DENISON FORESHORE REMEDIAL WORKS
The Shire of Irwin would like to advise the community of scheduled remedial works along the Port Denison Foreshore
Temporary remedial works will be carried out between the public boat ramp and the shelter sheds over the coming weeks to ensure safety for community members utilising the foreshore facilities.

SHIRE OF IRWIN CLOSED (Includes all work areas)
The Shire of Irwin will be closed between 1:00 – 3:30pm on Thursday 11 August 2016.
The closure applies to the Shire Administration, Visitors Centre/Library, Irwin Rec and Works Depot and affects availability of all staff.
Please call 9927 0000 during this time and our call centre will be able to refer your call or email reception@irwin.wa.gov.au and we will contact you at the earliest convenience. Urgent matters can be referred through the call centre.
CENSUS NIGHT – 9 August
The Census of Population and Housing (Census) is the statistical collection of data for the whole of Australia, undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
From 1 August, most households will receive a letter outlining how to participate in the Census, with the option of completing the Census online (the paper version can also be available to those who request it).
Lawfully everyone who is in Australia on Census night is required to participate.

DUYFKEN REPLICA VISIT
A replica of the Duyfken will be visiting a number of WA coastal communities during 2016 to celebrate the Dirk Hartog Anniversary (1616 – 2016), culminating with an official ceremony at Cape Inscrption on Dirk Hartog Island on 25 October 2016.
The replica will be visiting Port Denison between 5 - 7 October 2016 and is open for tours during this time, which can be booked through Ticketek.
DENISON FORESHORE SPRINT and MIDWEST SHOW & SHINE
The Denison Foreshore Sprint will be held on 25 September 2016, between 9am – 4pm along the Port Denison foreshore. Admission is FREE! This time trial event features vintage and classic cars and will complement the Midwest Show & Shine also on the same day.
HERITAGE AWARDS 2016
The Shire of Irwin Heritage Award is aimed at recognising excellence in conservation and exceptional efforts in promoting heritage within the Shire.
The award is given annually and may be awarded to Individuals, Community Groups, Government Bodies or Business Groups.
Nominations could be a building, a collection of natural or cultural landscapes, a promotion, a publication or a website.
To enter, please complete a Nomination Form, which are available from the Shire of Irwin Administration building.
AWARD CATEGORIES
Category 1 – Excellence in Heritage Building Design and Conservation
This award recognises preservation, restoration and reconstruction of a building or part of a building within the Shire of Irwin.
Category 2 – Outstanding Heritage Achievement
This award recognises individuals, groups, events, and publications etc that have made a significant contribution to the cultural heritage of the Shire of Irwin.

PROPOSED PEST PLANTS LOCAL LAW
Final chance to comment on the proposed Shire of Irwin Pest plants Local Law.
The purpose of this local law is to prescribe pest plants within the Shire of Irwin district that are likely to adversely affect the value of the property in the district, or the health, comfort or convenience of the inhabitants of the district.
The effect of this local law is to require the owner or occupier of private land within the Shire of Irwin to destroy eradicate or otherwise control pest plants on that land.
A copy of the proposed local law may be inspected at or obtained from the Shire Administration, 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara WA 6525 between 8.30am and 4.30pm. Alternatively you can access a copy from the Shire’s website www.irwin.wa.gov.au/latestnews.
