Employment Vacancy – Bushfire Risk Planning Coordinator

The Shires of Carnamah, Irwin and Northampton are offering a full time, contract position for a Bushfire Risk Planning Coordinator.

An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and experienced person to join the Shires of Irwin (as the host Shire), Carnamah and Northampton, and become an integral part of three organisations and communities.

Applicants will have emergency management knowledge and an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of bushfire-related organisations and will be required to work across all three Local Governments. 

This is a full time position on a fixed contract basis ending on 30 June 2016 with a possibility of extension or permanency. Regional travel will be required. A vehicle and mobile phone will be made available for use for the duration of the contract.

This is a full-time, contract position with a negotiated salary package of up to $129,690 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience). Additional benefits include a 19-day month, professional development and restricted private use of a vehicle. Other benefits and employment conditions are in accordance with the Local Government Industry Award 2010 and the National Employment Standards and will be discussed at interview.

Irwin Rec South Precinct Working Group

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held 24 November, Council resolved to establish the Irwin Rec South Precinct Working Group to assist in the preparation of a plan for the future development of facilities including tennis courts, disused hardcourts, skate park and BMX track for Council consideration. The group will meet to establish terms of reference that will guide membership, strategies and scope for the group.

As determined at the meeting, any works relating to the BMX track has been deferred pending an outcome from this group and any subsequent recommendations to Council for their consideration.

This Working Group will undertake further consultation with users of the facilities within this precinct and will take into account feedback already received through the Recreation Needs Analysis, petitions, correspondence and information sessions already held.

 

Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC)

To support and promote the Shire’s strategic direction and facilitate relationship building with key stakeholders Council resolved to establish the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC). The following strategies identified within the SCP should assist in developing the basis for this Committee;

1.1.2 Partner and negotiate with industry and commerce to improve local infrastructure

1.1.4 Develop an Investment Attraction Prospectus for the Shire.

1.1.5 Support initiatives progressed by the local business community, such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Mingenew Irwin Group, the Fisherman’s Association and other industry groups.

1.4.1 Develop and implement a Community and Economic Development Plan.

1.4.2 Investigate options to leverage investment and promote retail development

1.5.1 Partner with industry to leverage local opportunities

1.6.1 Continue to support and partner with the Dongara District High School, Geraldton Universities Centre, the Durack Institute of Technology and other training providers.

1.6.2 Support career development programs for youth

The Shire recently met with representatives of the Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MWCCI) Dongara Sub-Committee who indicated an interest in partnering with the Shire to achieve some shared goals in the interest of community prosperity and development therefore they have been provided an opportunity to sit on this Committee, as have independent community representatives. The EDAC will determine its own terms of reference (including membership composition) for Council consideration but in the interim appointed Councillor representatives (Cr West, Cr Thompson, Cr Smith and Cr Meares), the Chief Executive Officer and community representatives as above.

Draft Local Planning Strategy Available For Inspection

Notice is hereby given that the local government of the Shire of Irwin has prepared the abovementioned local planning strategy for the purpose of:

1.         setting out the long-term planning directions for the Shire over the next ten to 15 years and    establishes strategies and actions in the context of the State, regional and local planning framework; and

2.         establishing the rationale for review of its Local Planning Scheme No. 5.

The draft local planning strategy documents are available for viewing on the Shire’s website www.irwin.wa.gov.au (under the Planning tab) or at the Shire office at 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara where they will be available for inspection during office hours. Submissions on the draft local planning strategy may be made in writing and lodged with the Shire on or before 12pm Monday 21 December 2015.

Aged-Friendly Communities Plan

The Shire of Irwin is preparing an Age-Friendly Communities Plan that will identify the age-friendly features, barriers, and suggestions for improvement. We would appreciate your input on the future needs of seniors living in the Shire of Irwin by completing a short survey.

The survey is part of the consultation process and information received from these surveys will help form the basis for the development of the Age-Friendly Communities Plan.

The survey questions cover eight areas of wellbeing and will take most people approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. 

Consultants SDF Global have been engaged to facilitate this process. All information collected is strictly confidential and will not be made available or distributed to third parties. Responses will be collated and analysed by the Consultants.

If you would like to complete your survey online, there is a Survey Monkey version available on the Shire’s website www.irwin.wa.gov.au

Hard copies can be obtained from the Shire Administration Building, Irwin Recreation Centre, Dongara Community Resource Centre, and Visitors Centre or on the Shire’s website.

Completed Surveys can be placed in the boxes provided at the above locations.
