Social Media / Reporting Incidents

The Shire wishes to notify residents that it does not monitor Facebook pages and other social media platforms that are not managed by the Shire.

The Shire has been made aware that matters of community safety or operations relevant to the Shire functions and activities are being raised on social media without it being appropriately reported.

Whilst the Shire appreciates and respects people’s rights to discuss any matters on Facebook we would appreciate being informed directly (either through email, phone or even our own Facebook page) of anything that may require a response or action by the local government.

There is even an App available through the App store, Google Play etc (iOS and Android compatible), called Localeye that enables users to take a photo or report a matter to the relevant local government using your location.

The Shire relies on members of the public to report some matters, as our staff cannot obviously be everywhere at all times, therefore your feedback and cooperation is encouraged.

Lord Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund

Many will be aware of the bush fire disaster that has recently occurred in the Shire of Esperance, with significant damage to property and lives lost.

Council annually provides for a contribution to the Lord Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund in each year’s Budget with the aim of assisting to provide relief and aid to those affected by emergency situations and disaster in Western Australia.

Therefore it is timely that the Shire makes this contribution as the Shire of Esperance announces that financial support is most in need. If anyone would like further information about how they can help, visit the Shire of Esperance website or Facebook page.

We congratulate the Dongara Charities, who have recently made a very generous donation to this fund already.

Dealing with Sharps

Community members are urged to contact the Shire if they come across any needles in public areas, individuals should not attempt to touch or dispose of them.

There are a number of sharps disposal units available at public conveniences within Dongara and Port Denison to encourage safe disposal. Due to the very low number of reports we receive of needles being found, thankfully suggests that on the main the containers are being used as intended.

Shire vehicles are equipped with portable kits, including necessary PPE and containers to safely handle and dispose of any needles therefore please contact the Shire directly to report any such incidents.

The appropriate reporting of such incidents assists in maintaining a safe community and allows the Shire to work with relevant stakeholders to develop required strategies for dealing with any such issues.

Completed forms are to be returned to the Shire office, fax the details to 9927 1453 or email with your name, mobile number, email and locality. This form must be signed and by submitting your details you agree to participate in this scheme.
