Change of Council Meeting Date
The Ordinary Council Meeting to be held Tuesday, 25 August 2015 has been rescheduled to 4.00pm on Monday, 24 August 2015 in the Ocean Room at the Irwin Rec, Ridley Street, Port Denison.

New Council Chambers
The interior of the new Council Chambers and offices are nearing completion and the Planning and Infrastructure team are now based here. However, enquries should continue to be made through the main administration office. 

It is anticipated that the September Ordinary Council Meeting will be held in the new Council Chambers on Waldeck Street, Dongara. This will be confirmed in a future public notice.

Prospective Elected Members Information
WALGA is offering a free webinar for individuals who are considering becoming Elected Members on Wednesday, 12 August at 5.30pm. The webinar will run for 45 minutes and will cover the following topics:

 About Local Government

  • Becoming an Elected Member
  • Elected Member roles and responsibilities;
  • Council Meetings;
  • Personal responsibilities of an Elected Member such as what constitutes a conflict of interest and;
  • Impacts on Home Life.

The Shire of Irwin is also hosting a Candidate Information Session on Monday 24 August 2015 at 6:30 pm in the Ocean Room at the Recreation Centre following the Ordinary Council Meeting. Nominations for candidates to nominate for Council open on Thursday 3 September 2015 and close 4pm 10 September 2015.

The Local Government Election will be held on Saturday 17 October. However, Council have resolved for the election to be conducted by the WA Electoral Commission and held by postal vote.

Information regarding the Election will be made available at the Candidate Information Session or you can obtain further information by contacting the Coordinator Executive Services on 9927 0000 or email ea@irwin.wa.gov.au.

Community Assistance Scheme
The Shire of Irwin Community Assistance Scheme is to provide assistance to not for profit community based organisations, event organisers and individuals to support the promotion and development of social, economic, recreational, art and cultural projects that make a positive contribution to the quality of life within the Shire of Irwin. The Community Assistance Scheme provides the framework for the Shire of Irwin to administer community sponsorship. This framework ensures a consistent approach to all applicants who apply for assistance. The Scheme is open for Submissions, and closing Monday 14 September 2015 at 5pm. Projects must be completed by 30 June 2016. Anyone interested in applying must discuss their proposed project with the Manager Community Services on the details below. Obelisk Precinct Works
Work has recommenced at the Obelisk Precinct following adoption of the 2015/16 Budget at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 28 July 2015. This week has seen a general clean up of the area in preparation for the roadwork’s to begin next week. The work is in accordance with the final layout plan of the car park and footpath works adopted by Council at the June 2015 Ordinary Council meeting. The following is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2013; subject to weather, contractor and material availability:

  • Gravel and primer seal to new areas
  • Kerbing
  • Asphalt overlay to carpark
  • Back-fill behind kerbing
  • Construct and install drainage silt traps
  • Supply and install dual use footpaths (from Obelisk to boat ramp)
  • Line marking
  • General tidy up

During this phase of the project access may be closed to the public intermittently, to ensure the safety of all so please adhere to any traffic and safety signage in the area.The Tidy Towns Sustainable Committee will collaborate with staff to develop a Landscaping and Revegetation Plan for the area and intend to begin planting towards the middle of 2016 (timing to coincide with ideal planting conditions/season). Road Closure (Dongara Downs)
In accordance with Section 58 of the Land Administration Act 1997, notice is hereby given of the proposed closure of the unconstructed road adjacent and to the east of Lots 1771 and 1289 Wye Farm Road. A copy of the plan showing the portion of the unconstructed road reserve to be closed is available for inspection at the Shire of Irwin offices, 13 Waldeck Street, Dongara during office hours up to and including Monday 31 August 2015. Alternatively, a copy can be viewed on the Shire’s website at www.irwin.wa.gov.au under the Planning tab. Any submissions on the proposed road closure must be received by the Shire in writing by no later than 12 noon on Monday, 31 August 2015.
