Walkability Audit Tool

The Walkability Audit Tool is a tool for use by officers of local government authorities, consultants and community groups to identify issues to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and amenity, identify appropriate countermeasures, and document the findings of the situation in an audit report to develop an action plan for the Council. This information will also be used to update our current Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

A mixed group set out from the Shire Administration building on Monday 11 June to commence an audit of the Town Centre, up to the Dongara District High School and along Point Leander Drive to Foodworks. The audit looks at access for people of all physical activity levels and abilities. Ensuring facilities are accessible to seniors, people with disabilities, people with prams, gophers, wheelchairs, cyclists and also includes car parking and bike racks.

2012 Shire of Irwin Heritage Awards

The Irwin Heritage Award is aimed at recognising excellence in conservation and exceptional efforts in promoting heritage within the Shire. There are two categories Award for Excellence in Heritage Building Design and Conservation and Award for Outstanding Heritage Achievement. Nominations close 31 August 2012. A nomination form and guidelines can be obtained by contacting Coralie Palmer at the Shire of Irwin Administration Office on 9927 0000.

South Beach Coastal Erosion Danger

With the onset of the winter storm season, it is more important than ever for members of the public to exercise care and caution whilst in the vicinity of the coastline along Surf Beach. Council has agreed to seek further funds to continue the seawall to protect the beachside car park and Ocean Drive infrastructure. Arrangements are also being made to provide an alternative pathway adjacent to Ocean Drive due to beach erosion encroaching on the existing dual use path.
