Special Council Meeting – 10 February 2015

A Special Council Meeting has been called for 4pm Tuesday, 10 February 2015 and is to be held in the Function Room at the Irwin Recreation Centre.

The purpose of the meeting is to consider any submissions received and make a determination in regards to the New Proposal to Dispose of Lot 13 Point Leander Drive, Dongara WA 6525.

Administration Officer (Trainee) – 12 Month Contract

The Council are seeking applicants for an Administration Trainee to join the Shire of Irwin team.

The Trainee will need to be able to carry out various duties during their employment whilst also being required to complete a Certificate III in Business (or other related certification) throughout their 12 month term under the direction of the Coordinator Executive Services.

Customer Service Officer – Tourism and Library Services

The Shire is currently seeking a permanent, part-time Customer Service Officer to provide tourism and library services on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as additional hours to cover staff during periods of leave. Operating Hours at Library / Licensing / Visitor Centre

As of 2 February 2015 the Library/Licensing/Visitor Centre will be changing the operating hours to;

8.30am - 4.30pm Monday - Friday

10am - 1pm Saturday

The purpose is to align with the Shire Administration hours and cater for tourists requirements on Saturdays.

From 3pm Friday, 6 February 2015 and on Saturday, 7 February 2015 the Library/Licensing/Visitor Centre will be closed to undertake renovation work.

The Centre will be open Monday 9 February however access will temporarily change during this time to accommodate ongoing work – please enter through signed entryway.

Licensing services will be unavailable on 9 February 2015. We apologise for any inconvenience. Please note that many licensing services are available online at www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing or by calling 13 11 56.

Tourism and Library services will continue however please be patient as there may be minor disruptions and delays.

Australia Day 2015

Don’t forget to get down to the Port Denison Foreshore this Monday, 26 January 2015 to celebrate Australia Day. There will be the popular food and market stalls, sideshow activities, face painting and more, plus a fantastic fireworks display, once again sponsored by Stone Echo.

Please note that alcohol is not permitted along the foreshore area.

Corellas

The Shire applies to the Department of Parks and Wildlife each year to obtain a Damage Licence which allows the nominated staff member (Ranger) to use non-lethal means to deter the birds from unwanted areas.

This has had varying levels of success therefore the Shire is continuing to experiment with additional management methods to help address the matter.

Heritage Awards 2015

Nominations are now open for the Heritage Council’s 2015 Western Australian Heritage Awards. The awards highlight best practice in adaptive reuse, conservation, interpretation, heritage tourism, and promotion.

There are 8 award categories;

  • Voluntary Individual Contribution
  • Professional Contribution
  • Contribution by a Community-based Organisation
  • Contribution by a public or private organisation
  • Heritage practices by a local government
  • Interpretation Project
  • Heritage Tourism Project
  • Conservation or adaptive reuse of a state registered place.

There is also a Judges Award that is selected from across all categories.
