Seawall Tie-In Works

The Shire of Irwin is pleased to announce that the final stage of the Seawall Tie-In works has been completed by WBHO Civil. The Shire of Irwin staff and Council would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding, throughout the construction phase of the Seawall that initially commenced in 2009.

Further upgrade works to the Surf Beach car park, adjacent footpaths and grounds will commence shortly. Please be conscious that whilst these additional works are taking place the footpaths connected to Surf Beach, will be closed to pedestrian traffic to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the general public.

Fees and Charges for the Disposal of Tyres

Notice is hereby given that the Shire of Irwin has set the following Fees and Charges for the disposal of tyres at the Dongara Refuse site:

Please be advised that the above fees will be charged from the 1 January 2015 onward.

Dongara Denison Drive In

The Dongara Denison Drive In is showing Interstellar on Saturday, 13 December 2014. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs for approximately 169 mins. The gates open at 6pm – no walk-ins. Adults are $10 and children $5. All proceeds go to the Dongara Denison Surf Life Saving Club.

Holiday Period Closures

The Shire wishes to advise that the following closures apply for the Christmas and New Year period;

Administration Office
Closes 1pm, 24 December 2014 and reopens 8.30am, 5 January 2015.

Irwin Rec
Closes 1pm, 24 December 2014 and reopens 8.30am, 5 January 2015.

Visitors Centre, Licensing Centre and Public Library

Closed 1pm, 24 December 2014, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day – open all other days as normal, 9am – 5pm Monday to Thursday, 9am – 4:30pm Friday and 9am – 12 noon on Saturdays.

The Shire’s Call Centre will be available to take any messages and forward any urgent matters to relevant staff during this time so please call (08)9927 0000. Please be patient when calling the call centre as there may be delays.

It would be appreciated if residents could respect staff in using the call centre above rather than visiting staff at their home during the holiday period. All urgent matters will be dealt with appropriately and every effort will be made to respond to enquiries in a timely fashion.

Our Facebook page and Information Board will continue to be updated over the break as necessary, and many of our business details are available on the website at www.irwin.wa.gov.au.

Note a few emergency numbers that may be handy;

  • To report a fire call ‘000’
  • To report a shark sighting contact the Water Police on 9442 8600
  • For water leaks call the Water Corporation on 13 13 75
  • To report a power fault, street light outage or other electrical issues please call Western Power on 13 13 75
  • To report a dangerous driver (on or off-road) contact the Police on 13 14 44.

Irwin Rec Christmas Break

The Irwin Rec would like to thank everyone for a fantastic year of fitness, sport, functions and fun. Staff look forward to seeing all your faces again in 2015 to help you reach your health and fitness goals.

The Irwin Rec will be closed from 1pm Wednesday 24th December 2014 and reopening 6am Monday 5th January 2015.

Story Time at the Public Library

Story Time will continue every a Tuesday, from 10am at the Dongara Public Library until Tuesday, 16 December 2014. There will be a break over the school holidays, with Story Time returning in February 2015 – dates will be confirmed early in the new year.

Green Infrastructure Strategy

Notice is hereby given that the local government of the Shire of Irwin has prepared a Draft Green Infrastructure Strategy, which includes Draft Council Policies for Street Trees and Verge Treatments and for Public Open Space. It also includes a Draft Local Planning Policy - Water Sensitive Urban Design.

A summary of the strategy and the Background Report containing the strategy and the policies can be downloaded from the Shire’s website at www.irwin.wa.gov.au.

Extractive Industry Proposal

The Shire of Irwin has received an application to use and develop land for an Extractive Industry (Sand) at Lot M590 Allanooka Springs Road, Allanooka and public comments are invited.

Comments on the proposal may be submitted to the Shire in writing on or before Friday 2 January 2015.
