2014 Larry Lobster Festival – Alcohol Free Event – Road Closure

The 2014 Larry Lobster Festival, to be held on Saturday 15 November 2014, is a family friendly, alcohol-free event. Please see flyers displayed on our website or in the Local Rag.

Note that Point Leander Drive, from Hampton Street (roundabout) to Samuel Street will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC to prevent access to Point Leander Drive between 9am and 8:30pm for the Festival.

Access to Point Leander Drive from Leitch, William and Samuel Streets will be closed to traffic as well. Access to the Port Store and Southerlys is via Hampton Street.

Annual General Meeting of Electors

The Annual General Meeting of Electors of the Shire of Irwin will be held on Tuesday, 25 November 2014 at 5.30pm in the Ocean Room, Irwin Recreation Centre, Ridley Street, Port Denison.

The purpose of the meeting and order of business for the matters to be discussed at the meeting are firstly, the contents of the annual report for the 2013/14 financial year and then any other general business.

A copy of the annual report is available for download from the Shire’s website, from the Shire Office at 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara, by emailing or by telephoning 9927 0000.

Please note that questions requiring research should be submitted to the Shire in writing by 4.30pm on Thursday, 20 November 2014 so that an appropriate response can be made at the meeting.

Personalised Dates for Christmas

Please note the cut-off date for ordering optional (personalised) plates through Licensing, where delivery is required prior to Christmas, is 5pm Wednesday, 3 December 2014. Information regarding personalised plates can be found at or contact staff at the Library on 9927 1859.

Shire of Irwin YAC - Teen Hair and Make Up Afternoon

Youth are invited to a Teen Hair and Make Up Afternoon at the Fishermen's Hall on Saturday 8 November 2014 from 3pm.

Come along and have some fun with the girls while learning a funky new hair style and how to apply makeup correctly. Jess from Hairstory and Clarice from Reece's Mobile Makeup will be offering tips and advice, and Janette will follow with a photoshoot.

Council Meeting Dates for 2015

The Shire of Irwin wishes to advise of the following Council meeting dates for 2015.

The 2014 Forum and Ordinary Meetings will be held in the Ocean Room, Irwin Rec Centre, Ridley Street, Port Denison commencing at 4:00pm in accordance with the following schedule;









































It is anticipated that refurbishment works of the old Council Chambers may be completed before the end of 2015 therefore should this be the case, meetings will be held at 13 Waldeck Street, Dongara.

The Administration Centre also opens an hour later than usual, at 9am each Thursday morning following the Council Meeting each month for the purpose of holding a General staff meeting. Please see public notices closer to the dates.

Drive In Opening

An official Opening ceremony for the Drive In, to celebrate the upgrade to the equipment and kiosk and to recognise the contributions made by our funding partners, has now been delayed until January 2015. Information regarding the event will be provided in early 2015.

However the season is set to begin on Friday, 14 November 2014, with the Boxtrolls being shown at 7pm (gates open at 5:30pm). The Dongara Denison Surf Life Saving Club have a Facebook page which provides information on the movies being shown – Dongara Denison Drive In. Also see the Local Rag for more information.

Aquatic Facilities Feasibility Study

Thank you to those who have provided comments on the Draft Aquatic Feasibility Study that has been available for public comment. Submissions were required in writing on or before 7 November 2014.

The final report will be provided to Council to consider for adoption.

Community Assistance Scheme

The Shire of Irwin Community Assistance Scheme is to provide assistance to not for profit community based organisations, event organisers and individuals to support the promotion and development of social, economic, recreational, art and cultural projects that make a positive contribution to the quality of life within the Shire of Irwin.

The Community Assistance Scheme provides a framework for the Shire of Irwin to administer community sponsorship. This framework will ensure a consistent approach to all applicants who apply for assistance.

The Program is aimed at assisting community based organisations to undertake projects which can be shown to support the Shire of Irwin’s Vision Statement.

The Community Assistance Scheme is calling for submissions, and closes Friday 28 November 2014. Projects must be completed by 30 June 2015.
