A reminder to all dog owners to pick up after your dog(s) when walking them in public areas. Please be considerate of the environment and people in our community by being a responsible pet owner and appropriately disposing of dog waste. The Dongara Town Oval has recently been a particular area of concern.

There are various locations around Dongara and Port Denison that have Poo Pouches to appropriately dispose of your dogs business. Sites include; the Town Oval, South Beach, Seaspray, Moreton Tce, and the foreshore.

There is also a great range of products available on the market for purchase, such as portable dog waste bags that can easily be attached to your lead or the dog’s collar.

There are heavy penalties for owners who are caught not picking up their dog’s waste. If you have any enquiries please contact the Shire’s Ranger on 9927 0000.

Rules For Pools And Spas

With summer just around the corner, we would like to remind residents that all private swimming and spa pools that contain water that is more than 300mm deep must have a compliant barrier installed that restricts access by young children to the pool and its immediate surrounds. Owners and occupiers are responsible for ensuring that any fence or barrier restricting access to a swimming or spa pool is maintained and operating effectively.

Child drowning is silent and coughs or splashing may not even be heard. Most drownings occur where there is no barrier between the residence and the pool area or because the barrier is defective.

Drowning is the most common cause of preventable death for children aged 0–5. Pool fencing legislation has contributed to a significant reduction in the number of toddlers drowning in backyard pools in Western Australia.

Please contact Heather Watts, the Shire’s Environmental Health Officer on 9927 0000 or email for any enquiries regarding pool safety requirements.
