Rules for Pools and Spas

With summer just around the corner, we would like to remind residents that all private swimming and spa pools that contain water that is more than 300mm deep must have a compliant barrier installed that restricts access by young children to the pool and its immediate surrounds.

Owners and occupiers are responsible for ensuring that any fence or barrier restricting access to a swimming or spa pool is maintained and operating effectively. Pool Barriers must comply with Australian Standard AS1926.1-1993

The Royal Living Saving Society web site contains very useful information for pool owners.

If you are unsure as to whether your pool is compliant with the required Building Standards please contact the Shire of Irwin on 9927 0000 if you require further information.

Preparing for Fire Season

To assist residents in preparing for the coming fire season, a flyer has been included on the Shire’s website and in the Dongara Denison Local Rag.

The flyer gives practical advice on how to prepare your property to ensure a bushfire can be prevented or to minimise damage. Further information can be obtained from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services www.dfes.wa.gov.au or contact the Shire’s Community Emergency Services Manager, Kyle Pollitt on 0417 165 056.

Firebreak Notices were also included with this year’s Rates Notice and can be accessed from our website. The notice outlines landowner responsibilities with regard to firebreaks and burning periods.

Regardless of the severity or location of a fire, if you wish to report a fire please call ‘000’, calling your local Shire, police or brigade members prior to Triple Zero may result in delays and confusion.

There is also an Emergency + Smartphone App available from the App Store and Google Play which will provide the caller with information about when to call Triple Zero, display coordinates of the phone’s location so that it can swiftly be provided to the operator and details of who can be called in non-emergency situations.
