Adoption of 2014/15 Budget

At a Special Meeting of Council on Tuesday, 12 August 2014 the 2014/15 Budget was adopted by Absolute Majority. The Draft Budget was made available for a 3 week period prior to the Special Meeting and no comments were received. A copy of the unconfirmed minutes are currently available on the Shire’s website www.irwin.wa.gov.au.

As a result of the Budget adoption rates will be mailed out in the following week. Your Rates package should include a Rates Notice, Rates Pamphlet, Firebreak Notice and Early Ratepayers' Prize Draw Flyer. The Rates Pamphlet contains information about the rating structure and amounts for 2014/15, how you may appeal, concessions, payment methods and contact details for the Shire.

Pay your rates in full by 22 September 2014 and you are automatically entered into the Early Ratepayers’ Prize Draw. The Shire would like to extrend a thank you to the generous businesses who donated to the Prize draw this year.

Tourism Boost Workshop

The Tourism Council WA, in collaboration with the Shire of Irwin and sponsored by Tourism WA and Perth Airport, is hosting a Tourism Boost workshop for local businesses on 16 September 2014 in the  Function Room at the Irwin Rec Centre from 8:30am – 12:30pm.

The Tourism Workshop is designed as an introduction and refresher course on the tourism industry and is complemented by Tourism Council WA’s eTourism and Media & PR Workshops.

Midwest Charity Begins at Home

Midwest Charity Begins at Home is looking to produce a Midwest WA themed cookbook to be published in late 2014. The proceeds from this book are to go towards helping cancer sufferers and those with a serious illness within our Midwest community.

Recipes are being sought from locals and families along with a brief story of where the recipe has come from, any tips and why it may be special.

Recipes are required by 31 August 2014. For more information please see the flyer in this week’s Rag or go to www.createabookbook.com.au.

Australian Government Mobile Service Centre Assistance

The Australian Government Mobile Service Centre (including services from Medicare, Centrelink, Child Support) will be at the Town Oval, corner of Waldeck and Walton Streets, on 25 August 2014 between 9:00am and 3:00pm.

Mid West Tourism Development Strategy

Local Governments, state government agencies, tourism industry stakeholders and businesses in the Mid West have collaborated to develop a Mid West Tourism Development Strategy. The Draft Mid West Tourism Development Strategy is now available for comment until 21 August 2014.

Author Visit – Fiona Palmer and Rachel Johns

The Shire invites you to a Double Author Visit on Thursday 25 September, 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the Ocean Room, Irwin Rec Centre. Tickets are available at the Dongara Public Library and cost $5 per person. Refreshments will be available on the night.

Justice of the Peace Appointments and Statutory Declarations

If you require the services of Darren Simmons, Chief Executive Officer in his capacity as a Justice of the Peace (JP) then please contact Miss Erin Greaves, Executive Assistant on 9927 0000 or email ea@irwin.wa.gov.au to arrange an appointment to ensure he is available to assist.

Should you require an authorised witness for a Statutory Declaration under the Oaths, Affidavits and Statutory Declarations Act 2005 there are a number of staff available at the Shire that are authorised.

If you are unsure of the type of authorisation or witness you may require please contact Erin on 9927 0000.

Proposed Disposal of Property – Lot 13 Point Leander Drive, Dongara

In accordance with Section 3.58 of the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire of Irwin (the Shire) hereby gives notice of its intention to dispose of Lot 13 Point Leander Drive, Dongara for an amount of $270,000 in cash (exclusive of GST) and for a 3,290m2 (southern) portion of Lot 13 Point Leander Drive, Dongara (currently valued at $460,000) to be gifted to the Shire of Irwin upon completion of a future subdivision of Lot 13 Point Leander Drive to Batavia Health.

Batavia Health proposes to develop a purpose built medical and allied health centre on the northern portion of the site with reciprocal medical centre and public parking provided on the southern portion.

An ‘as is – vacant land’ market valuation of $730,000 (exclusive of GST) dated 14 July 2014 has been procured by the Shire.

Submissions on the proposal can be mailed to the Chief Executive Officer, Shire of Irwin, PMB 21, DONGARA WA 6525 or emailed to reception@irwin.wa.gov.au and will be accepted until 4.30pm on Monday, 18 August 2014.

Draft Local Structure Plan - Lots 4, 5 & 10 Brand Highway, Bonniefield

The Shire has received a Draft Local Structure Plan for Lots 4, 5 & 10 Brand Highway, Bonniefield. The proposal includes a concept plan and a rationale for future residential land, and site analysis details.

The draft structure plan is available for viewing at the Shire of Irwin offices, 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara, or online at www.irwin.wa.gov.au under the Planning menu. Please direct any enquiries to Mr Doug Fotheringham, Manager Planning Services. Comments on the draft may be submitted to the Shire in writing on or before 4:30pm on Friday 22 August 2014.

Proposed Omnibus Amendment to Local Planning Scheme No. 5

Notice is hereby given that the local government of the Shire of Irwin has prepared an omnibus amendment to the Shire’s planning scheme, which proposes modifications to the text only (i.e. no changes to the scheme maps are proposed). The amendment is available for inspection in order to provide an opportunity for public comment. It should not be construed that final approval will be granted.

The proposed omnibus amendment is available for viewing at the Shire of Irwin offices, 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara, or online at www.irwin.wa.gov.au under the Planning menu. Please direct any enquiries to Mr Doug Fotheringham, Manager Planning Services. Comments on the draft may be submitted to the Shire in writing on or before 4:30pm on Friday, 19 September 2014.

Proposed Road Closure of Piggery Lane

In accordance with Section 58 of the Land Administration Act 1997, notice is hereby given of the proposed permanent closure of the road reserve known as a portion of Piggery Lane, on the northern side of Midlands Road. The road closure has been requested by Wellard Agri Limited. Wellard’s intent is to: take ownership of the road and responsibility for maintenance; and to allow other parties to use the road, provided they inform Wellard prior to use.

A copy of the plan showing the road to be closed is available for inspection at the Shire of Irwin offices, 13 Waldeck Street, Dongara during office hours up to and including Thursday 28 August 2014. Alternatively, a copy can be viewed on the Shire’s website at www.irwin.wa.gov.au under the Planning menu.

Any objections to the proposed road closure must be received by the Shire in writing by no later than 5:00pm on Thursday 28 August 2014.
