YAC Bonfire

The Shire of Irwin YAC are hosting a Bonfire on Saturday 26 April 2014 between 6pm – 11pm for youth aged 12-17 years at the Surf Life Saving Club, South Beach.

Snack will be provided.

Please be aware this is a drug and alcohol free event!

National Volunteer Week

Community and Sporting Groups and Not For Profit Organisations are invited to A Thank The Volunteer - High Tea on Friday 16 May 2014 at the Irwin Recreation Centre from 11:30am To 1:30pm. 

To support National Volunteer Week the Shire are hosting a function to promote awareness of volunteers within our community by inviting key people from community groups, sporting groups and not for profit organisations to attend.

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia and provides an opportunity to highlight the role volunteers have within our Community.

Could community groups and sporting groups and not for profit organisations please nominate a maximum of two people to attend

Please direct all enquiries and RSVP to Coralie Palmer – Manager Community Services on 9927 0000 by Wednesday 14 May 2014.

Heritage Awards – Closing 30 April 2014

Nominations are now open for the 2014 Shire of Irwin Heritage Awards. The Irwin Heritage Award is aimed at recognising excellence in conservation and exceptional efforts in promoting heritage within the Shire.

The award is given annually and may be awarded to Individuals, Community Groups, Government Bodies or Business Groups. Nominations could be a building, a collection of natural or cultural landscapes, a promotion, a publication or a website.

To enter, please complete a nomination form and submit to the Shire by 5.00pm on Wednesday, 30 April 2014. Nomination forms are available from the Shire of Irwin Administration Office, 13 Waldeck Street.

The Walking School Bus

We would love to start the Walking School Bus again in Term 2 and are looking for volunteers to be our ‘drivers’!

What is the Walking School Bus?

A Walking School Bus is a group of students, with adult supervision, walking along a set route between their homes and school. Children can join the bus along a route, near their homes, or they can be taken to a collection point to commence the walk.

What will it take to be a volunteer?

2 hours of your time on a Thursday morning (less if you get picked up from School!)

Be physically fit to walk up to 3kms (return trip)

Have a child related to you walking with the bus

or hold a Working With Children Card

How do I become a Volunteer?

Irwin Rec Gym and Fitness Classes

Easter is done and dusted and it’s time to get back in the gym to burn off some of those Easter goodies!

Strength Class, Bootcamp, Punchfit & Zumba all resume from 28th April, with Zumba Gold commencing 7th May.

We are excited to announce that we will be having a trial of opening on SUNDAY MORNINGS FROM 8am – 10am. This will be a 9 week trial, commencing on 4May finishing on 29June 2014.

The Irwin Rec is now taking Gymnastics registrations for Term 2 starting 5 and 6 May 2014. To register call in to the Irwin Rec, phone 9955 9200 or contact us through Facebook.

Integrity Coach Lines – Perth to Port Hedland

Please note that there has been a change to the Perth to Port Hedland inland timetable. There will now be an earlier departure on Tuesday nights at 21:00 rather than a Wednesday evening departure. If you have any enquiries regarding this Coach Services offered please contact the Visitors Centre on 9927 1404.
