Youth

The Shire of Irwin are looking to develop and deliver programs in a fun, interactive style that promotes self esteem and provides skills based learning experiences. To do this the Shire are seeking interest from a group of community minded young people aged 13 – 18, who get together to plan youth inspired and youth driven events and activities. This group would then be called the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

A group of community minded young people aged 13 – 18, who get together to plan youth inspired and youth driven events and activities.

Why Have a Youth Advisory Committee?

  • Young people have a lot of ideas and energy that can be used for change;
  • To involve young people, in meaningful ways, in decisions which affect them;
  • The Youth Advisory Committee will provide young people and the Shire of Irwin with a reference group for youth issues.

The Shire of Irwin previously donated a space for use as a drop-in centre, and there was quite a bit of work to be done to the building, this work has never progressed.

If enough interest is shown it is hoped that the Youth Advisory Committee will become active and have a strong role in encouraging greater participation by young people in community initiatives.
