MEDIA RELEASE

Midwest Show n Shine and Denison Foreshore Sprint 2018, presented by Making Smoking History

17 August 2018

For the third year, the towns of Dongara – Port Denison will host the most picturesque motor sport event in Western Australia. Spectators will be treated to an impressive display of driver skill as they navigate the 2.5km course, along the main street in Port Denison and around the obelisk –  home to the Fishermen’s Lookout at the height of the marina precinct.

Racing against the clock will be pre-1985 manufacture cars, of which most are modified for much more power than their original state. Expect to see some very rapid Mustangs, Fords of many different models, GM models including HQ and Monaro, as well as classic English and European sports cars

The Sprint is held in conjunction with the Midwest Show n Shine, now in its fourteenth year with vehicles and motorcycles shined up and on display Sunday 23 September. The display will boast immaculate vehicles from the oldest, the highly customized and the toughest streeters to the newest arrivals in showrooms.

This year brings some exciting new events, including the mighty Rob Waters ‘SUPER TRUCK’, demonstrating feats of extreme horsepower. Rob has taken many coveted awards here in Australia and more recently in the New Zealand Super Truck Series and holds the land speed record for modified diesel trucks in Australia.

Also taking to the streets in Port Denison will be Acting Senior Sergeant Mike Pearson who heads Beat the Heat (WA) Inc, a program run by off-duty police officers where they drag race interested youth drivers at the Perth Motorplex. BTHWA was designed to build alliances between young drivers and the Police by using the common interest of motor sport to provide opportunities to educate young drivers. This interaction intends to bring about changes in attitudes that will encourage responsible driver behaviour and acceptance of road rules in the community.

Local businesses are ready for the crowd, several food vans will be on-site to feed the masses and the crew from Spirit Radio will broadcast live during the morning

Putting on such an event takes many hours of volunteer time from both groups. The Shire of Irwin are extremely humbled and excited that it is to be hosted in Dongara – Port Denison and will continue to assist them in every way possible.

If you would like to include your vehicle in the Show n Shine static display, arrive at 7am on the day and complete a nomination form. For spectators, gates open at 9am and the day concludes at 4pm. This event is family-friendly and proudly presented by Making Smoking History. For further information please contact the Shire of Irwin’s Manager Community Capacity, Nicole Nelson, on 9927 0000.
