Draft Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027

Available for review and comment.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held 27 June 2017, Council resolved to advertise the Draft Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027 and consider any submissions or, should no submissions be received that would result in changes affecting the intent of the document, adopt the Plan as presented.

In preparing this document, feedback from the MARKYT scorecard consultation has been considered as well as input from Councillors, Committee members and staff.

It is important that this document remains as a broad strategic guide for more detailed planning through the Corporate Business Plan (currently being drafted based on the new SCP) and other informing strategies. If you are looking to see how an issue or project that is important to you fits into this process, you need to consider the broader objective for this document. It is also relevant to consider how these outcomes, strategies and potential actions link back to the overall Objectives.

Some examples of how our strategies may link to matters of interest for the community:

Strategy 1.1.1 Continuously improve approval processes indicates our commitment to reducing red tape where possible to ensure it is known "we are open for business"!

Strategy 2.2.3 Manage existing waste services and introduce ways to reduce waste and/or its impacts recognises the community's interest in recycling.

Strategy 3.1.2 Identify and support services, events and programs for social inclusion and well-being (including those catering for families, youth and seniors) will be met through initiatives such as the Community Assistance Scheme.

Strategy 4.1.1 Enhance the Shire's profile through marketing initiatives and community engagement signifies the Shire's commitment to improving how we listen and communicate with the public.

To view a copy of the document click here or please visit the Shire of Irwin. Submissions may be submitted via email to hr@irwin.wa.gov.au, in writing to PMB 21 Dongara WA 6525 or hand delivered to the Shire Administration at 11-13 Waldeck Street, Dongara WA.

We will also be trialling submissions via message on the Shire of Irwin Facebook page. Submissions will be accepted up to 12 noon, Monday, 14 August 2017.

Any submissions received may be provided, in summary form, to Council to inform the final adoption of the SCP. As noted in the Council resolution, should no submissions that are likely to result in a significant change to the intent of the document be received by the closing date the SCP will be considered adopted without further Council consideration.
