Dongara-Denison : Gateway to the Batavia Coast
Just 3˝ hours north of Perth by car lies Western Australia's Mid West region and the twin towns of Dongara and Port Denison. The Administrative Centre for the Shire of Irwin is situated in Dongara and overlooking the marina a few kilometres away is the twin town of Port Denison. This area offers a relaxed lifestyle with beautiful beaches, historical sites and a healthy fishing industry. The main street, Moreton Terrace, is lined with Moreton Bay Fig trees which were planted in 1906 and are now a focal point of the town.
Originally built on a strong rural economy, Dongara and Port Denison now have a thriving rock lobster fishing and processing industry and is ever-increasing in popularity as a place for tourists.
Also known to many as the "wildflower region", this area is home to some of the world's finest collections of flowering plants.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION RESULTS
The decision of Council to abolish wards and conduct a postal election was obviously very well received by the community with over 57% of eligible voters casting a vote. This compares to only 36% who voted at the last Shire elections in 2007 and as far as we are aware was the highest voter turnout for a Shire election this year.
The results, in order of votes received, are:
Rob McClurg 704 elected to council
Bronwen Scott 671 elected to council
Ian West 655 elected to council
John Fitzhardinge 516 elected to council
Darren Fitzpatrick 479
Mark Leonard 448
Malcolm Meares 308
Tracey Rangi 294
Gail Dean-Gundill 282
John Rossiter 213
