Community Safety & Crime Prevention

A safe community is a place that is attractive to live, work, visit and do business. Perceptions of community safety, real or perceived, impact on the way people feel and interact in their community.

A Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan is both a strategic and practical document that provides a framework for local government, local community groups and key government agencies to implement initiatives that will improve community safety over all.

Future Plans

The Shire will be working with the WA Police and local community to develop a current Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan. This plan will introduce new initiatives that address current issues within the region.

The aim of the plan will be to increase community safety and reduce crime through:

  • Positive partnerships with the Office of Crime Prevention, Roadwise and WA Police;
  • Strengthening communities and revitalising neighbourhoods;
  • Early intervention with juveniles and adult offenders who are involved in the criminal justice system;
  • Further implementation of the Dongara Alcohol Management Group message;
  • Crime and safety issues related to wider social and health problems (unemployment, abuse of alcohol and drugs);
  • Interventions to reduce re-offending
